Some Privacy/Security concerns - 2008/06/25 16:55 Not to be paranoid, but "utilize" for what purpose? What defines a third party as being one that is "acting on behalf of FREEDIALUP.ORG"?

From the Terms and Conditions page (http://www.freedialup.org/site/content/view/21/26/):
Collection and Use of Personal Information.
FREEDIALUP.ORG will collect, store, compile and utilize information about you, your computer, your phone number and your use of the FREEDIALUP.ORG Services including, without limitation, information regarding the Web sites you visit. However, FREEDIALUP.ORG will not disclose your name, address, telephone number, credit card number(s), e-mail addresses or other personal identifying information to third parties other than those acting on behalf of FREEDIALUP.ORG, unless you give FREEDIALUP.ORG consent to do so or except as may be required by law.

There also is language saying that you can change service conditions, including fees at will. Doesn't this mean in theory that one could at some point get a surprise bill in the mail?

Again, sorry if this sounds a bit paranoid, but this the internet after all, and internet experience trains one to be less than trusting, especially when it comes to seemingly free deals (especially when it's not obvious how the deal could have a net benefit for the company), so it's nothing personal against this company.

Re:Some Privacy/Security concerns - 2008/10/01 21:22 You will never get a bill from this service. Period. It is free.
The owner of this ISP does it for fun.

Why do we keep information?

For example, people use file sharing programs and we sometimes get
emails from companies stating software program FOO is being used by
this IP at this time. The person is sharing the program which is against
the law.

Well our support will try to contact the person and ask them to remove
the file.

That is probably the most common and only example I can think of offhand. Since we know the telephone number that connected at such
a date and time we know how to at least try to contact them.

Otherwise i know squat about you except what is contained in my radius
authentication logs, what is posted on this bboard, etc...

I do not know your full name.
I do not know your home address.
I do not know if you are female or male.

I basically only know your phone number, the time you connected, and that sort of stuff.

We do not analyze your traffic. We do block port 25 though. Spammers suck. Use webmail please.

I hope that makes any curious people more comfortable with this service.
